A board game still needs room to breathe
What to inspect when a tabletop design becomes an app.
Playdesk Digest · Editorial note · 5 October 2026
Read the smallest information
A board full of coloured pieces can look inviting in a promotional image. Look more closely at numbers, symbols and the distance between controls. Those details matter when the same board is held in one hand.
Do not assume the social setup
Solo, pass-and-play and online play are distinct features. Verify the exact mode you need in the current listing. A familiar tabletop name does not guarantee that its digital version supports your preferred way to play.
Separate the base game from extras
Paid apps can still offer expansions or other purchases. Compare the base content and the optional content separately. The question is whether the initial package fits your plans, not whether an app carries a premium label.
